Taiwan Medical Equipment Giant CSD—Foray into Fashion Bangkok

【By Chen Lianfen/Reporting from Bangkok】
STYLE Bangkok 2024 took place from March 20 to 24 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. Taiwan's renowned medical equipment giant, CSD, made a splash with its latest face mask series, "Purely Nude," featuring Thai transgender queen Yoshi as its ambassador. This not only boosted the brand, but also brought it into the spotlight on the first day of the exhibition, attracting attention from international buyers.

In recent years, Taiwanese medical equipment manufacturer CSD has been actively seeking business opportunities overseas. CSD marketing manager Julie Chou stated that following their participation in LifeStyle Week Tokyo in Japan last April, CSD has set its sights on Thailand this year, participating in the prestigious STYLE Bangkok. On the opening day, they particularly invited the popular Thai transgender beauty pageant winner Rinrada Thurapan (known as Yoshi), along with handsome actor Proom Kiatipoom and Nonnaphatt, to endorse their latest face mask series "Purely Nude." Their presence at the CSD booth, J24-28, attracted a large crowd, with numerous Thai and international media eager to interview them. At 2:30pm, the elegant Yoshi captivated everyone's attention as she showcased and wore the "Purely Nude" face masks alongside Proom Kiatipoom and Nonnaphatt, perfectly illustrating that "face mask is a fashion accessory." The endorsement event created a highly enthusiastic atmosphere at the venue.

Julie Chou mentioned that STYLE Bangkok aligns perfectly with CSD's brand concept of "Health in Style," injecting a fresh energy into their products through aesthetics. Thailand is renowned for fashion, and Bangkok is the fashion capital of ASEAN, known for its fashion design prowess. Given the concept of face masks as fashion accessories, CSD anticipates a higher acceptance among Thai consumers. Therefore, Thailand was chosen as the first destination for their foray into the ASEAN market.

Chou emphasized that CSD has always prioritized fashion aesthetics and participation in this exhibition aims to showcase medical equipment as a fashion accessory. Their exhibition booth featured two avant-garde fashion window displays of fashionable masks in collaboration with major brands like Bulgari, which attracted a lot of attention, declaring CSD's attitude towards medical aesthetics. Another clever feature was the large LED screen placed at the center which continuously played fashion show videos, making visitors feel like fashionistas attending a fashion show. Through their relentless pursuit of innovation and fashion, CSD aims to bring a higher sense of fashion to face masks.

Chou also mentioned that initial market research indicates that the face mask market in Thailand is similar to Taiwan's several years ago, primarily consisting of blue, green, or white face masks lacking in aesthetic design. In recent years, CSD has developed over 700 face mask designs via their in-house designs and collaborations with other brands. They showcased over a hundred fashionable masks (including collaborations with Bulgari and others), as well as various high-quality medical equipment at STYLE Bangkok, attracting inquiries from many international buyers.

CSD hopes to attract Thai partners, further expanding distribution channels in Thailand and jointly explore the market. They aspire to incorporate Thai styles into their designs to create products that resonate with Thai consumers. They are considering collaborations with Thai celebrities, singers, designers, and other artists for co-branded face masks or other medical equipment products.

STYLE Bangkok was held from March 20 to 24, 2024, featuring the latest products in gifts, home decorations, furniture, and fashion trends. Over 490 companies participated in the exhibition at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), with major exhibiting countries including Thailand, South Korea, Japan, China, and other ASEAN countries.
